Communication Media and different types of communication Media.

Communication Media:

The path through which data is transmitted from one place to another is called  Communication Media Or Communication channel.

There are Different Types Of Communication Media.

1) Guided Media

2) Unguided Media

Guided Media:

In Guided Media, communication devices are directly connected with each other by using some physical media like Wires. it is a network media that travels data in a closed path. It is also called Guided or wired media.

It is Also called Bounded Media.

Example:

Some examples of bounded media for communication are as follows.

Twisted pair cable

A pair of insulating wires are twisted together in twisted pair cable. It is easy to installed and not more costly than other type of cable.

Co-axial Cable.

  1. Coaxial cable is high capacity cables look like television cable.
  2. It contain two wore inner layer and outer layer

Fiber optic Cable.

  1. This cable is designed for higher bandwidth and for a long distance.
  2. It carry communicational signal using pulses of light.

Unguided Media

It is also called wireless media. Data signals flow through air in unguided medium instead of physical medium. In unguided Media, communication devices communicate with each other Through air or space using broadcast radio signals, microwave signal and infrared signal. Unbounded media is used where it is impossible to install cable.

Example:

Some examples of unbounded media for communication are as follows.

Radio waves.

  1. It is used to connect computer wirelessly it contain antenna which converts incoming radio waves into data packets and vice-versa.
  2. The transmitting and receiving signal needn’t to be in line of sight. So, it can be used in hilly region and rural areas.

Microwave.

  1. It is a wireless medium used for a longer distance for a data transmission.
  2. The transmitting signal and receiving signal must be visible.

Infrared

  1. It is used red light(invisible by naked eye) to transmit the data.
  2. It is limited to distance. It is used in remote control, WLAN etc.

Bluetooth

  1. It is wireless medium that allow various device to communicate. It can transfer audio, video, or any multimedia contents.
  2. It is cost effective and better than infrared.
